John Mulaney, Jim Gaffigan to co-headline Edmonton’s Great Outdoors Comedy Festival in 2025

The Great Outdoors Comedy Festival has landed some big names for its 2025 Edmonton edition.

Festival organizer Trixstar announced Tuesday morning that John Mulaney and Jim Gaffigan would co-headline the Sunday, July 20 event at Kinsmen Park.

“We couldn’t be more excited to announce this John and Jim co-headline as the first couple shows for 2025,” Trixstar vice-president Brennan McFaul said in a release. The duo also headline the Winnipeg event on July 19.

“They are long-time friends and a couple of the best comedians of our time. They have never performed like this, so having them on the same stage, on the same night in both Winnipeg and Edmonton is going to be an unforgettable experience for everyone in attendance.”

Mulaney worked as a writer on Saturday Night Live from 2008-2013, for which he won an Emmy and two Writers Guild Awards and has returned to host multiple times since. He is also noted for his standup specials, including the Emmy-winning Baby J, released in 2023.

Gaffigan has been nominated for seven Grammy awards for his comedic work, has snagged a couple of Emmys, and most recently has been seen on SNL, portraying Vice-President Kamala Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Gaffigan’s extensive filmography runs the gamut from family animation to comedy to psychological thrillers.

Single-day tickets for July 20 and three-day weekend passes will go on sale on Nov. 1 at 10 a.m.

Acts for July 18 and 19 are still to be announced.
