Description
Up for auction is a NICE Vintage Silver Soldered Sugar Bowl with no lid from REED & BARTON.Couldn't find too much information on the term "SILVER SOLDERED" but it refers to a thin line of hard solder (roughly 2/3 silver) used to join holloware parts and is often used on better quality silver plate. It is also used and sometimes appears on hotel ware items. Measures 5 & 3/4" L (top) and 2.5" L (Base) x 2.5" W (top) and 2" W (Base) at the longest and widest points. Weighs 8.235 ozt. (troy ounces) and 256.13 Grams. This piece has the REED & BARTON makers mark (name) and the piece is marked "THE MONTICELLO". Couldn't find much on THE MONTICELLO but maybe it was a hotel or it has showed up as a pattern from Reed & Barton. Has a number of 355 on the base noted. Can only assume that it is a thin line of solder and that the quality is a better silver plate composition.
This sugar bowl without lid has no monogram. Item is showing some surface imperfections that may be able to be buffed out or polished. Noted is some scratches, darkening spots (minimal) and scuffing and surface wear areas. Pictures
don't do the item any justice. Give it a good home among your other memorabilia/collection or give to a special person as a personal gift.
