Description
These two candlesticks (candle holders) are in the French Neoclassical tradition and are labled "Creil Reproduction" (pic # 6) in indication of Creil Montereau faience production in France in the 1880's. They have a black & white transfer pattern which encircles the enire candlestick so that each candlestick has two faces. The pattern features flags, spears, laurel leaves, medallions and obelisks. I believe these Mottahedeh candlesticks date to the early-to-mid 1960's. The undersides are also labled, Made in Italy, "S.5074" and Mottahedeh, Made in Italy.Dimensions
: 10
¼" high with the bottom oval measuring 6" x 4
¾". The hole for the candle is about 1-1
¼" diameter.
Both candlesticks are in good to very good condition. There is some residual candlewax in both candleholders (picture # 5 & 9) and there are some flea bites or dings which are not very noticeable on first glance (pictures #7, 8, & 10).
These candlesticks are great on their own but they also form a stunning vignette with the oval black trasfer plate I have on another auction shown in the last picture.
Please note: THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE 2 CANDLESTICKS ONLY! THE PLATE IS FOR SALE ON ANOTHER AUCTION.
