    Description

This beautiful antique sugar and creamer is marked as shown. James W. Tufts' trademark was registered on February 2, 1875 in Medford, Massachusetts. He was known for his soda fountain serving pieces used in drugstores. He died in 1902 and the company ceased operations in 1914. I've noticed some people list this set as being from 1948 but the 1948 on this set is actually their pattern number and not the date of manufacture obviously since they closed in 1914. The lid for the sugar bowl also has 1948 incised on the inside. It doesn't fit tightly on the bowl but I imagine that's so it doesn't get stuck too tightly making it difficult to remove. Not sure but it does go to the set. There are no dings etc. and both pieces are beautiful. I never polish quadruple plate, I think it's prettier with the patina but the choice is yours. They measure 3 3/4" high at the opening, not counting the lid and spout.
