1825 HALF CENT CLASSIC HEAD EXTREMELY FINE (EF) SCARCE COHEN 1 (HCT009)

Description

Nice Half-Cent with great eye-appeal.  There have been only two die marriages discovered for this year, the Cohen 1 and Cohen 2, both of which shares the same reverse, however the obverse on each is slightly different, but enough to launch the Cohen 1 into the more scarce status, and the values PCGS places on each variety reflects that scarcity.   Note that the deciding factor between the two obverse dies is that the "5" on the Cohen 1 appears further left of the "5" on the Cohen 2 in relation to the hair curl above it, and that "some" of the 1825 cents...mostly the Cohen 1, has a bump on the rim.  In the case of this coin, the bump appears directly above Star 12, although the bump location can fluctuate.  This bump is apparently from a gap in the collar that allowed metal to be forced into it during the strike.  This anomaly was probably not an issue on the earliest of its uses, therefore may not be present on all Cohen 1 varieties, but more so on them than the Cohen 2.      Purchase with confidence!  Free shipping and free, 30-day returns!
